I never thought to use butter knives .. makes sense. Stainless is much stiffer to help get a 'wriggle on' .. oops! sorry ... wriggle out

A video would help. images of the sides where the clips are would be great.
Just buy a couple of cheap scrapers.

I'm not sure that this would work on mine. My steering wheel is on the RHS!

I used 25mm scrapers from Bunnings.'

The problem globe is the single one that lights up the on/off, auto, defrost, recycle econ, fan, seat and ext. Does the globe come out of the holder? It rotated a bit but wouldn't pull out. I think that is the problem. As everything else works, I think that it is not the ribbon.

I've had some of these that do come out, and many that don't(my D1).

On my D2 HVAC units, none of the globes come out of the holders.

Good to see you got it. It's awkward first time .. you don't want to bust anything .. but now you know the method, from here on it's going to feel easy to do.

Did you know the similar method used to remove the 6x switch block and central locking+clock panel from the centre dash console too?
Hidden tabs top and bottom planes of those panels.
This is where I learned the credit card type trick.

I replaced the globe. Now the light works. But after a bump the light went out, a tap and the light came on. The globe is really tight in its socket, compared to the old one. I'll give the contacts a clean and see if that helps.

    Finally it works.

Monday the light did not work. I was thinking that the ribbon cable was buggered. I bought a second hand unit. I had a lovely drive to Carrum Downs to pick it up.
I removed the old unit and bent the retaining springs a bit. The old unit rattled
I installed the new unit. Light did not work

I opened up old unit and fished out very small bulb. I re fitted the bulb and used a screwdriver, not a finger nail to get it tight. Bent the springs back to shape. Installed and the light works!! Woo Hoo.
Now I have a spare unit in need of a light globe.
The spare unit had the wire looms cut. Why? it is easier to remove the plugs.
    Any way, finally success.
