Car does not lock. Horn sounds instead of locking.

I know that if a door is slightly open, then the car will not lock and the horn sounds. This is what is happening to me, except the doors are all closed properly and the bonnet is down and latched. I can lock the doors with the switch on the dash, then lock the drovers door with the key.
Any ideas on where to start?
    Thanks

Mine will lock with bonnet up. The horn sounds but it still locks.

I would still check the it though. If that is good I would then start by checking each door lock switch.

I would start with the drivers door as it is the most used. The BCU thinks there is a door open when there isn't.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Start with the bonnet latch, mine is sensitive that it needs to be slammed for it to register its closed position.

so adjust your bonnet stops so you don't have to slam it.
The latch is just a latch , the switch near the airbox is what signals the BCU.

Our Defender wouldn't lock when the bonnet switch failed, but I'm not sure if that is your problem.

    My bad.

The battery cover was out of place, holding the bonnet up enough to stop the bonnet switch switching.
I did not notice this last night or this afternoon.

That's great. Love it when the fix is simple and cheap. Car does not lock. Horn sounds instead of locking.

I'm glad that the bonnet switch gave a legitimate warning. I got caught with the same symptoms once when a spare key was hiding in my wife's handbag in the boot. The car absolutely refused to lock. It took a few minutes to figure out the cause of the D4's refusal. This was not long after I suffered the dreaded door-lock-sticking syndrome so I was a bit concerned that something else had failed...
