    D1/D2 Binnacle Cowling Question

Does anyone happen to know if the D2 binnacle plastic cowling can be retrofitted to the D1/RRC dash?
If so, I'd like to fit a D2 version to my softdash RRC to utilise some of the side switches for ancilliaries etc.

I also hope to fit a D2 steering wheel with both LH media and RH cruise control buttons to the softdash. I already have one with the cruise buttons that has been damaged by others and needs replacing.

D2 plastic cowl fits into D1 no worries.

But I thought the RRC softdash 'cowl' is a single piece with the dashtop/dashboard .. not a separate cowl cover like the D1/D2 type.
Centre console switches and stuff look like D2 types.
    Arthur.

You could well be right Arthur - will post when I find out. As part of the OP conversion to TD5, the D2 binnacle "guts" slotted neatly into the softdash binnacle.

It should work but good luck finding a good D2 binnacle, they are a particularly fragile item and NLA as a new part. There are also a couple of versions depending on whether you have a dash light brightness adjuster or not. A D1 binnacle would also fit.

    cheers

Yep, but I'm assuming the D1 binnacle (like my softdash) doesn't have the switchgear on either side, which was the thrust of the original question. I actually have what I think/hope is a D2 binnacle somewhere in the seatainer, but need to check/confirm.

D1 binnacle has switches each side.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Like V8Ian said, the D1 binnacle has the switches on the side.

The centre console of the softdash RRC seems to have the same centre console as the D1/D2, so the ashtray could be removed and a 3 way switch could be placed in it's place from a donor vehicle.
Those 3way switch blocks use the same switch type as used on the binnacle sides too .. obviously the orientation of the switch icons will be weird tho.

Depending on if you like the clock that can be removed and replaced with a disco 2 3*2 switch block and be filled with reasonably available disco/defender switches. Much easier in a D1/RRC as you can use a d2 hazard switch, I'm trying to see if I can make a combination unit that holds 2*2 switchs and also the (un)lock button to suit a d2.
