    Disco 2 - 3D printed parts

    Howdy

I've been learning 3D modelling recently using Blender - highly recommended to anyone interested to teach themselves. It's open-source so completely free, and in my opinion, much more intuitive than SketchUp or AutoCAD. Did I mention it's free too?

I'd like to offer out my amateur services to AULRO users should anyone need a D2 part 3D printed. I find it's much more fun learning with practical projects, and if it helps someone out, bonus points.

Depending on where you're located, it may just be easier for me to model it and for you to get it printed locally, but I'm more than happy to consider any modelling requests!

Anyway, I'll be here if you need me. In the meantime, check out this small library of parts someone has already put up on Thingiverse:

I'd suggest RH A pillar cover and windscreen plenum would be popular, but I imagine the latter would be too big for a home printer.
You should compare notes with Incisor, he's half a step behind you.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Finish isn't perfect, but fit is good. Still learning the intricacies of setting up the printer and material specs.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Yeah both of these are a bit too big for a home printer - could still be done in multiple parts but wouldn't be particularly sexy in the case of a pillar cover. If someone actually needs it, I'll give it a crack!

I'll admit I've never tried blender, but Fusion360 is another great option for designing your stl models. It's free and pretty intuitive to use in my opinion.

I would love some sort of housing that would fit in the space between the instrument binnacle and the A pillar
that will fit a Madman EMS3

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

That looks achievable and about the right amount of challenge for my current skill level. Are you able to post/PM a photo of your ideal position? Maybe if you just tape a mock up in situ?

I'll email the supplier to see if I can get schematics, otherwise I'll need you to whip out the calipers.

    Instrument Binnacle top

Ha, have been looking at the 3D machines with many thoughts how they could be utilized.

The first idea I had I had was to incorporate 2" EGT and Watertemp guages neatly onto the top of the cover of the instrument binnacle, one either side at around 45 degrees off TDC. As I already have to cut the top of the dash board to fit the alpine stereo in, have purchased a plastic welder/cutter which I thought would also lop off the top of the instrument binnacle cover which would then ideally extend across to the A pillar to house the Two Radio or switches or ultimately a hard wired winch controller etc.

The X810D-U has a single din 8"screen and it is going to be touch and go if I have remove any plastic below the screen but to sit flush, the upper dash is going to have be cut. Was hoping the cut piece would be turned around to hide the ugly metal casing but a 3 D cover piece which some bloke on that the thingiverse has done would be the better solution!! - did try to find but later will search the net for it! Again this should house a couple of extra switches on the upper edge as it is not going to block line of site, or inconjunction with the binnacle, switches between the right side and binnacle sweeping up nicley...

The ultimate is, converting the Sunvisor to a 12" screen holder!!!, flipping it down and viola, there is a lovely 12 inch screen or ipad etc. Has a lovely surround to attach to and is already powered with the mirror ( the ultimate mirror upgrade, a camera on the ipad / tablet!!) This would be fantastic for Hema Maps etc. as the sunvisor for mine still sits high enough to be down when driving. The X802D alpine has hema maps standard- bit more than I paid for mine I might add LOL

Ohh could go on but hope this gets the brain salivating ideas for you!!

The pic on the left is what I had in mind.
Something that is shaped on the bottom to sit snugly on the dash.
