I'd better follow this thread!
Ive got some time this week, so getting around to hooking up a cdl
Will be going for an air ram, running off vacuum to do the actuation.
Also fitting the shift kit.
The old bias spring setup is all ugly and broken.![]()
I'd better follow this thread!

Slick shift is straightforward,
I did have to grind the right spring a bit.
No way was it going to fit without a bit of removal.![]()
Its a little rough,![]()
Just not quite enough force from vacuum.
Plumbed up air compressor comming soon.
100psi will do it - 14psi of vacuum equivalent is enough to engage - but not disengage.
Anyone else thinking of doing this, my advice - just buy a cable setup. Not worth going down this road.![]()
The cylinder I'm using is a 1" bore. A two incher would do the job but that starts getting ridiculous.
A 1inch is fine - I’ve been down that road and would NEVER trade my air ram for a cable setup. No wrenching on levers and cursing![]()
Here’s a pic of mine when it was new, ‘tis not shiny and pretty now but is still working PERFECTLY

I’ve just edited my last post - referring back to my initial post on this forum I see that I installed it over Easter of 2011.
It is air operated (80>100psi) - I bought an ARB airlocker compressor and mounted it on an ARB D2 dual battery tray designed to bolt to the passenger side bulkhead behind the ABS module... not a good spot for a dual battery (too close to the turbo) but perfect for an onboard compressor. I don’t have diff lockers so I used the ‘twin’ ARB airlocker wiring loom that came with the compressor to ‘select’ and ‘operate’ the CDL air ram. The compressor gets equal use for tyre inflation as well.
