If it the same as a D1, a Commodore pump is the same for less dollars. You'll have to change the electrical connections.
Doris (D II 4.6 V8) died while my partner was returning from shopping (90k round trip). After a tow home checked electrics, inertia switch, relays & etc. and all OK. So out with the fuel pump assembly. Easy to remove as it sits in a Long ranger tank. Bench tested and seemed OK so back in. Engine started but was surging & cutting out as revs increased.
Fuel pump out again and decided to disassemble. Tapped the pump out of the housing, but the filter housing is glued so had to persuade with a hammer and chisel. You can see in the pic the filter was badly clogged. They make it so easy for we who like to fix things themselves - NOT.
Think I will leave out the filter, replace the pump with a BFP772 and hook up directly to the outlet with new submersible hose and install an external filter.
Thanks to bee utey and others on this site for the knowledge that they have shared in these forums.
Cheers

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Yep V8Ian, going south next week so I'll take the pump and compare it to a BFP772, as bee utey suggests.
I did it on my D1. Worked a treat, the bonus was the cost saving. Nil stock for the Land Rover part, in Innisfail, but the Holden part was readily available.

while I havent done one on the BSL ( shock horror) I did the other two and neither had that type of filter,, just a flat woven tube that lies flush/flat with the bottom of the tank.
picking up the dregs is more important than good filtration at that point...

Doris is back on the road for an outlay of less than $90. Thanks once again for the members of this forum.
Bought a fuel pump and inline filter from a very knowledgeable and helpful bloke at Repco. Part numbers bosch BFP0382 (0 986 580 979), ryco Z578.
Pump is an exact match and electrical connector is the same as original. See pics.

excuse my ignoramus question here:
if you use an external inline filter(ie. not using an internal filter) and considering the gunge buildup you saw .. isn't that going to cause the pump to fail quicker.
That is, it's not 100% clear that you either cleaned the old filter(unlikely) or used the filter out of the BFP pump(if you used as many parts as possible).

I'm with Arthur,, with that much crap in the fuel tank I'd be buying a six pack of filters at a time...
different sock material on both my filter installs but the idea is the same here
filter before the pump, or await another failure I reckon..

Hi Arthur & Pedro,
Yes you are both absolutely right, a filter before the pump would be the best setup.
BUT LR in their wisdom .....
The original setup has the cartridge filter AFTER the pump, so it would have been a major project to alter it to have a filter before the pump. Hopefully this is explained in the pic. The whole setup sits on the bottom of the tank and is held in place by the spring steel strips pushing down.
No I chucked the old filter, the filter canister is now bypassed, but is required as the pump is pressed down inside it. You should be able to see this in my previous post pics. The original pump is still working OK, but I decided to change it as insurance anyway.
cheers, Pen
The Original fuel pump on my D2a finally died after nearly 300,000K's much of which was offroad and towing.
I can't be bothered working out the math But that pump and filter would have pumped a Massive amount of fuel over the last 17 years.
So Exactly what is wrong with the design of the genuine assembly considering mine lasted 17 years/300,000K's??
I understand that we can "Cobble" together an alternative pump/filter arrangement at a lesser cost BUT will that cheap setup be as reliable as the genuine article?
