Ok thanks Kaaaiju, slunnie and tombie. I think I have all the information I need.

3” sounds good to me, esp if I can get away with 33’s and no chop, and those rates that you are using slunnie sound sensible.

So now I just need to get some 3” springs, find the tallest D2 turrets I can, get some cranked watts linkages, disconnect sway bars and measure up open and closed lengths without shocks in to determine shock lengths, is that correct??

And, yes Tombie, F&R Ashcroft ATB’s are on the list. I’m choosing the ATB over lockers bc I do mostly sand trips and from my understanding it’s easier on the drive line (less upgrades for 90% comparable off-road abilities)

I would recommend to anyone replacing springs, for whatever reason, to weigh the axle first. Share this information with the supplier.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Dont jump into turrets too early, you may not need them. I'd also recommend the TruTrac over the Ashcroft ATB because it wears better, the front is setup for the front instead of a reversed rear and the bias ratio is better.

I think Dobinsons may do a 3" that were developed for Shane from Suspension Stuff. They come up higher than 3" though.
    Cheers

A Td5 Auto with steel bullbar (and dog on the front seat) is 1.1T including the unsprung weight. Lovells actually stripped my car and they measured the springs and compared this to the installed spring length.

Hmm, it looks like I need new front springs to cope with the steel bar and winch. Might as well get a set for the rear while I am at it. 2 inch longer ones!!

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Re: TruTrac, yeah, but double the price. That post on another thread is the first i’ve heard of the wear issue. I’m not pulling the trigger just yet. If one comes up second hand tho I will jump on it. The higher bias is also desirable as well.

    Thanks

Just depends, because if you run tyres bigger than 32's you will need to start increasing the bumpstops to stop rubbing but the bigger thing is the front springs are really tight. LR used a light wire with fewer coils, where aftermarket tend to stress the spring less by running heavier wire with more coils and the springs end up being totally compressed. I'd just wait and see what you end up with there before specing the shock and the turret. If there is no need, you may not have to faff around with the coolant bottle etc also.

Nope. Not on a D2. For your application will be a total waste of your coin.
