    TD5 D2a stalling issue

Our D2 has been running fine, but day before yesterday I went to back out of a carpark after starting it and it stalled.
Restarted and it idled fine, but then ran rough and almost stalled when put into reverse - but recovered.
Seemed fine apart from that, and it didn't do it again that day.
Yesterday my wife went to use it and it stalled every time she put it into drive or reverse. Unfortunately it was parked behind her car on the driveway, I was at work, and it took her about 20mins to get it out of the way so she could get to her car.

Hence I have a problem to fix

Nanocom had a "driver input" fault logged when I plugged it in, but hasn't repeated after a few starts.
Engine is still either stalling or almost stalling when trans moved to drive/reverse.
If I hold the engine at about 1800-2000 rpm in park it feels like it might be missing a cylinder - definitely a consistent slight roughness but might just be a Td5 thing.
No recent work done on it, but my wife commented a few days ago that it seemed to be getting even more sluggish to take off than usual. Typically its like an elderly snail, but now more like one that has only just woken up.... (the Disco - not SWMBO!!).

Engine is completely stock, around 260K, still has EGR etc

Any suggestions on where to start??

Have you checked for oil at the ECU? Also maybe try disconnecting the MAF to see if that makes a difference.

    Cleaned the connector. No difference.
    Disconnected the MAF. No difference.

You will probably need to let the oil drain out from the ecu. You can either pry it open or let it drain out over night. With that much oil in the loom you will need a new injector loom as well. There quite cheap and easy to change.

I'll order a loom and pull the ECU, sit it in the sun on some paper towel and see if any drains out.
Definitely when I pulled the plug oil was actually running out of that!
I'd prefer not to have to open the ECU up if I don't really need to - but will attack if if required.

I know the oil in the loom has been well covered in other threads so I'll do some reading...

    This isn’t cool...

Think it’s time for a good cleanup and some general maintenance.

Apart from being filthy with oil - not sure if this elbow was off before I pulled the top cover.
