How to completely get rid of MAF on de-EGR'd TD5
I was browsing You Tube last night and came across a video by an Australian bloke.
He showed that he had disconnected his MAF and bridged the output from the MAF to the output of the TPS. IE near to the ECU he bridged the out wire from the MAF to the red plug to the output wire from the TPS to the black plug so that the ECU measured the tPS output instead of the MAF output.
He seemed to have a manual .
Has anyone tried this on an EU3 auto.
I know the MAF controls change point but the ECU would see the voltage of the TPS which varies up to 4.9 volts or so, just like a MAF signal.
I can see possible problems if you mashed the accelerator at low revs as the apparent MAF signal would be high and maybe cause an early or maybe late gear change.
Any experience or comments?
The YuoTube bloke had gutted his MAF which may give better air flow.
I have never heard of this in the many years I have been on the forum.

And an excellent thread for a relative TD5 newbie like moi to digest.
Thanks Craig!![]()
Wow ,
I didn't think my memory was so bad!
I have not done the mod as I respect Offtrack who also helped me in the past by changing the maximum values in my tune to allow for higher boost cut off and MAF values. His trace showed almost identical tracks for MAF and MAP.
I have never had a problem with poor running even with my $30 Chinese MAF.LOL (except the first week I owned the car with a bad MAF)
One advantage I can see for manual owners, EU2only? is that the entire MAF could be gutted or removed to reduce inlet restriction.
I remember now what a great thread it was.

PS I miss you Offtrack please come back.
I did this yesterday to try and nut out a ridiculous delayed off idle throttle response on my recently acquired Td5.
I did unplug the MAF first and no difference but what the hell tried it anyway. Still no difference so cut jumper wire today and plugged MAF back in.
