My D1 deals with that by having crawler gears in the TC.

I asked that question once before, and the general consensus was, yes you can. I'n not sure, but I'm stripping the wreck that I have and I'm looking to see. But I doubt that I'll do it.

So true. However, I don't need the rear seats.

Always felt like I had more room in the D1 up front. Played with seat rails on D2 in desperate (but failed) attempt to get adequate legroom.
Pretty awful economy in the 3.9 on gas, but glorious burble from the V8 made up for it.
Never ever felt even remotely confident to go to the same places in the D2 that I'd tackle in a heartbeat with the D1.

Regret ever selling the D1 (and far too cheaply). Never really had an issue reliability-wise.
    Haven't missed the D2 for a moment.

I was fairly happy with the consumption of my 3.9. Petrol only, but I averaged 22~23 mpg. The Td5 get a bit under 30 mpg.
By far the biggest issue with the D2 is having to peer under the top of the windscreen, a right, royal pia if I'm first off at traffic lights.

This is my biggest issue between the D2 and D1.
D1 has a lot more drivers legroom. I always struggle a bit in brothers D2.
not only the legroom difference, but also the seat squab in the D2 is longer, and offers better under thigh support.

Bit of an issue for me due to my buggered right knee, which makes it a wee bit arduous on a long continuous drive.
I need to use cruise control a lot more in the D2 than the D1 to compensate.

Otherwise D2 is my preferred overall.

Now that I'm back in work, and once the last few amassed bills have been finished(from last year), I'm hoping to have my D2(V8) on the road too.
It's a higher spec version with electric seats, which mean height adjustment as well, so has some compensation for leg room in that respect.

If you're having to look under to look out of the Disco, never jump into a Deefer big fella!

I did have the seat trails raised 22mm on the Deefer so the seat would slide over the small lip on the seatbox bulkhead, its a quick and dirty fix to make room for my pins.
It really was like looking out of a letterbox, and even worse trying to look out the drivers door window.

Maybe that's why I don't notice it, or maybe I'm just shorter in the body? My height is mostly legs, they are stupidly long.

One thing that really irks me is the non-interchangeability of parts. My D1 has a Maxidrive rear locker, axles from the same maker, 33s and crawler gears in the T/C. I can put the T/C in the D2, but nothing else fits. Vice versa, I have a D2 wreck, and I'd like to be able to put it's brakes on the D1......

I'd have thought the Maxidrive(diff) will fit. Same diffs.
Yes axles/brakes/hubs/bearing/etc .. all different .. much better overall design in the D2 over the D1(IMO).
But I'm 99.999% sure actual diffs(housing/CWP/etc) internals are same.
Maybe slight differences in the locking of the bearings(if memory serves me).

I have my D2 diffs out, getting ATBs and going into my D1 .. some day soon.

MaxiDrive lockers use an actuator on the axle. Axles aren't swappable I don't think.

Yep, the Maxi setup uses an actuator block with ash internal fork welded onto the axle housing which slides the locking dog along an extra spline on the long side axle to engage a broached spline inside the diff carrier.

Not swappable from the D1 to 2 without major work, you may as well buy a complete new setup from MR to fit to the D2.
Or fit a Pro-Locker, Ashcroft or ARB locket instead as they are easier to install
