Any Holden up to around HZ,including the WB commercials were the same, particularly the 6's.
I remember buying a water pump for the HZ we had in the day for $12.00,and that was a top quality brand, the cheapies were about $4.00.

My Brother set the points in the Series 1 today, and replaced the condenser, which solved the missing issue.
I wonder how many 'factory trained techs' would know how to do that today, without following the how to do process on their smartphone?

I would have difficulty these days as my eyes are not what they used to be, gotta blame that on lots of soldering and brazing, and working in dingy plant rooms over the years.
    Oh,and age

OH,and the XY shouldn't get stolen by the local young teenagers, as its got 3 pedals

Anyway,Ian,i hope the repairs go well and its all sorted soon, at least temporarily.
There will more than likely something else that will rear its head to annoy you again in the near future.
And thats experience from owning D2's

It also has a choke knob.. They wouldn't know what that's for. Mate's mum had an HG ute, which always ran like a pig when she drove it, until we worked out that the choke knob was a convenient thing to hang a handbag on.. Dunno how she got on with the new-fangled automatic chokes later on.
