TD5 Remap advice

I can't contradict that cos i dont have facebook but i have one myself and few friends too(one with competition defender) and no probs yet, good power and torque, decent EGT, i had Alive which was not so good... what can i say? if the motors are not well maintained or very stressed with huge tyres they can fail with any remap or even without one. As long as there is no excessive smoke and decent ECT + EGT i dont see why the engine or injectors would fail though

Wouldn’t even think about giving him the job.

Plus Jose does free unlimited updates to the map, bigger turbo or the intercooler etc for life and $340 AUD is the cheapest and best mapping company

I won't comment on what anyone else does tuning wise, but I think I'm pretty good at communicating, and I stand by my work.

I do not do map's that smoke, I stick pretty tightly to sensible AFR.

A number of tunes I have seen are honestly running 13-15/1 at the worst points, which is a no no on a diesel, and with a bit of effort can be avoided, even without replacing the turbo and intercooler(within reason of course)

The MAF can be deleted on an EU3 but it's not really that great an idea, you lose the different hi/low tuning that they have, amongst other things....

Interesting, good to know, on the other side my friend with the race defender had a td5inside map which gave him 1000*C EGT and smoked as hell and it's way better with the storm... i think that nobody's perfect when it comes to addapted remaps

Agreed but with my map from Jose I asked for smoke and I can blocked out the sun when using my pop corn [emoji535][emoji535][emoji535] it's the best sound compared to the others

With Jose's tunes and yours Shack, can you stand on it towing a trailer up a long hill and never have to worry about the EGT's etc or do they still need to be watched?

I've run ECU upgrade since not long after they started being done, but my pet hate with them is high EGT's.

I was going to chip in earlier but this one prompted me. 2002 TD5 auto EU3.

IMHO you will always have EGT problems while towing if you do not upgrade the cooler, and delete the cat and free up the exhaust and use much higher boost. I dont really know the effect of EGR delete as I deleted mine before I had the mods.
Even then I have to watch the EGT gauge closely all the time on hills to hold it under 700C with occasional 750C using about 22Lbs boost.

So it becomes a balance of speed loss vs acceptable EGT, although the car has much more torque on hills.

I have an old BAS tune and while it is good without a trailer on, I have to closely monitor EGTs when towing my 1000Kg loaded camper. It was much worse when I towed my daughters 1500Kg camper.

I can rarely use cruise control when towing as it rams the throttle wide open at any loss of speed.

Slightly O/T, but I could improve fuel consumption on the Scania by nearly 15% by not using cruise, probably for the same reason. Bit of a bore driving Melb to Bris, but it made the boss happy when I did it.

Thanks PhilipA, I'm not the only one thinking that way then. My thoughts with upgrades is Intercooler first because of EGTs, but it sounds like keeping the EGTs under control in all conditions is what keeps the Td5 at a conservative 100kw and I do wonder if the Defender is at 90kw due to its lack of aerodynamics as well. Makes you wonder what all of the reasons were for the intercooler upgrade with the D2a. But its also something that is really important to know for people who do upgrades to improve towing, likewise decision making between Td5 upgrades and engine conversions. I'm not knocking it though, I've also got the Td5 intercooler, ECU, EGR etc.
