    Filler neck grommet installation

Ok, so I've just tried to replace the missing fuel filler neck grommet on my D2. Common sense would suggest it would be designed to be placed over the filler neck and just pushed firmly home, however looking at it I'm starting to worry that it involves removal of rear axle, tank and half the chassis

Please tell me I'm wrong (or how it's done!)

I think I felt the same way when I needed to replace mine. I didn't have a second thought.

I used a high grade black sikoflex , plenty of good quality masking tape , and built it up over several layers with plenty of spit to lay it in.

From the outside looked ok from the inside not as good. It remained there for years. I didn't move the vehicle for a week or so as the sikoflex cured.

Just letting it sit on top of the sheetmetal stops it moving about too much as it is.I've got to buy some black Sikaflex for a cracked bumper repair soon, so I think I'll cut the bottom lip off the grommet then just sikaflex it in place unless by some miracle the filler neck is easy to extract.

The entire filler neck isn't that hard to remove, there's just the main end of it clamped to the tank and also a breather quick disconnect near the bottom of the plastic filler bit.
