    Timing chain lifespan?

I've seen a post on FB that the timing chains need to be replaced every 250,000 miles, as they can stretch. First I've heard of it. Any truth in this?

They are pretty long so will stretch I guess.
Not such a problem in TD5 as you can adjust the cam timing .
In modern cars eg Holden 3.6 you get an engine light and new timing chains, guides and 3 days labour is the go.
Mine was spot on at about 200Kk according to my timing pins.
Long oil changes seem to be the culprit or should I say following the manufacturer's recommendation .LOL

My last D2, Td5 10p, had the plastic chain guide let go catastrophically at about 490k km’s. Lots of engine damage including the chain coming through the rocker cover. I’ve changed the guide and chain in my current car which was a PITA but I’m confident I’ve removed a couple of failure modes.

Our TD5 broke the chain long before that service life was reached.
The rebuild go nowhere near it either before doing the same.

Oh my gosh I think I've just gotten very lucky with mine! Just found timing chain guide in pieces, only just started making a bad noise from engine ss I got home.
