Thread: Recommend Machine shop for td5 head skim Melbourne

Try engineaction.
I was recommended them to do the work on my V8 D2.

That project went on hold for a short time pre covid, and then covid happened and it's been postponed further .. so no personal experience with them.
But I did chat to a bloke whose name I can't recall(longshot! ... maybe Darren) and he seemed legit.

Don't know of any others.

When you say north or west melbourne do you mean suburbs or literally those suburbs.

...anyhow, due to the point that I don't know anyone else locally, I'm still planning to use them when the v8 rebuild does finally start.

I thought you couldn’t skim the head of a TD5???

Thanks ill give them both a call.

I checked it for flatness myself before i put it back together and think its good, i want to get it pressure tested and the surface needs a skim to get the previous gasket marks off it, hours of cleaning only got me so far.

Correct.

But people still do it.
I think the reason is that they are heat treated, I think they could theoretically be softened, skimmed and re hardened.

I had one skimmed and it lasted 100 000 km, but then it shuffled due to incorrect plastic dowels so I pulled it and put on another.
