    Td5 Drive Plate Bolts

Refitting a new drive plate(some call it a flex plate) to my Td5

In the Rave manual on page 66-2 (the Rave page) or 87 (The PDF page) there is a list of all the bolt torque settings for the Td5 engine

For the drive plate to crankshaft bolts it says 115 Nm (85 flb)

However, when I go to the page 12-1-89 or 228 there is the fitting instructions.

Here it says 40 NM (30flb) then a further 90 degrees.

So which one is it and how could the one manual have two totally different specs?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Myself.., I would be comfortable with the 40NM plus 90 degrees - the 90 degrees sets the bolt stretch and the bolt stretch exerts the clamping force that the engineers specified. ‘Tis curious why there is conflicting information in the manual though.

The two specs would end up the same, I expect. Are you putting in a heavy duty flex plate, Dave?

Yeah, I have heard that. I think it might me A&B Transmissions.

I am a big fan of Ashcroft stuff as he is a LR specialist and from my learnings his gear is top shelf

I got one. Can't recommend as I haven't had the chance to test... but the cracks in the one that came out suggests to me that it's worth the $$ I'll look for the invoice tomorrow if you want. I'm absolutely a fan of Aschrofts, but if it's only a drive plate is it worth it? Mine cost around $150 a few years ago. It's just a bit thicker in the end. Not a big deal but worth it while you are at it.

When my D2 was my brothers .. he needed a torque converter. So while out, even tho flex plate was fine we replaced it due to reading about the issues they can have.
I sourced one from LRA (Les Richmond Automotive) when they were in Thomastown. He had it there in stock, so in my hands immediately. From memory was in the high hundred dollar mark(maybe ~$180).
Torque converter place was around the corner, picked up and driven the 100 klms to the mechanic to fit it all.

If you haven't already got the ashcroft one, may be worth checking locally. The freight from the UK will be the killer to the budget!

side note: I recently bought two blanking plates for my 300 Tdi. cost was one UK pound each .. awesome! saved me the effort to get someone to make them up for me .. 5mm plate, drill holes etc.
A day later they contacted me saying 6 pounds freight. OH! I thought a bit high for an 'envelope' .. weight about 1kg.
They contacted me again explaining they got their original weight calculation incorrect, and then wanted a further 18 pounds due to the 1kg weight!
Bugga .. do I now cancel or continue? idiot me I continued. Those $4 items came in at $54Au...

The second side note about freight. I'm looking for a few of the door check straps for my D2. Hard to find.. cost a fortune when you do.
Found two in stock in the US .. at $25 each .. really a no brainer.
Went through the website to find how much shipping will cost. ... $264US! ... errr no thanks.
Still cheaper than the $400 each some places want for the parts .. but still .. no thanks.

Expect freight will cost a small fortune.
