    d2 running on 4 cylinders

I have a D2 v8 auto 1999 project car which starts and runs but has a bad misfire such that the cats glow cherry red (not good in the paddock with all this long grass). I removed the spark plugs to find that 2,3,5 and 8 had not been firing. This pointed to a problem with the right side coil so I replaced that - no change. This morning I swapped the ECM from my other D2 (my "going to town car") but still no improvement.
So that leaves a broken wire (or am I missing something).
The low tension side wiring has what I thought was a repair but, when I removed the tape, was a large brown resistor, is it?
This doesn't appear in my circuit diagram.
Would be very grateful for any thoughts or hints.
Also I have the three amigos. Nanocom says a problem with the ABS pump stuck. Not too worried about that unless you think related the misfire.

    similar issue here;
Disco 2 1999 V8 lots of misfires on one bank

I personally can't see why/how an O2 sensor could cause it though.
    test leads, strobe light maybe?

Not sure if this is relevant. I have a td5.
Son in law v6 commodore wasn’t sparking on 1 coil pack turned out to be ignition control module, do the v8 have these?

Thanks Rob. I thought the ECM did that but if there's an ignition module I shall give it a dam good scrutineering.
At the the moment 'm going to test the green and yellow wire from the low tension connector of the coil to fuse 14 in the passenger fuse box.
But my confidence in reading wiring diagrams is low.
Does any one have any ideas on the resistor just down from the right side coil multiplug. It's not present on the LHS?

Thanks also Ronski. Have checked the leads to cyl 2 and 8 with my strobe light after pulling the plugs. No spark there, but there was sparks on 4 and 6.

Have found the problem. Used the circuit diag and the electrical library (fantastic resources). Traced the green and yellow wire from the RHS coil to fuse 14. Open circuit. So checked the LHS to fuse 14 which was continuous. So checked along the green and yellow wire to find a bad connection at connector CO 587 pin4.
Haven't actually fixed that yet as its OK when the fuse box is pulled off its mount, but the connection fails as its pushed into place.

The car does now run on 8 cyl Yahoo

Moral: test everything before assuming it's a failed component and replacing a coil needlessly!

I must say I love a post where the question is asked, the problem has been found, and the issue is posted. Thanks, Baz

Yes I agree - all too often on here you have people asking for help and then they dont have the manners to post the solution so that all can benefit from the addition of knowledge. Not sure why the generous support of a few is a one way street.
