Thread: Replacement ignition barrel - Discovery 1 STC1435 fit?

Can't tell you but when my ignition barrel died I had the local lock smith rebuild it that would of been 5 years ago still going strong cost me about $180 then.

Hey I've just changed mine with a spare parts Disco2 one. They're expensive apprently because the come with all of the door handles as well.

Chatting to Bruce Davis and Davis Performance. He has got a way of repairing them rather than replacing which is meant to be a lot cheaper. I'm really not sure what he does, but then at least your ignition remains keyed alike with your door. It may be worth a quick chat with him.

I doubt that it will fit well cos the switch harness is different and the D1 barrel is shorter as it's not supposed to have the passive remobilisation exciter coil on it

I'm also abut to do this replacement. I found this thread with a pdf outlining how to replace with a D1 unit and keep the same keys. Discovery _2 ignition replacement (aulro.com)
I believe you're right with the part number, looks like 4wdindustries is cheapest: Ignition Barrel / Steering Lock for Land Rover Discovery 1 1994 Onwards STC1435 (4wdindustries.com.au) all online options I found are aftermarket.

When mine failed I removed the most internal wafer and that fixed the problem.
I believe that too much weight on the keyring causes failure of this wafer.
The lock won’t be as secure but know one will know.

That's the guide I used when I changed the ignition barrel on my D2.
BTW the ignition barrel failed a week before holiday, (repair season) $170 to get the car towed home!!

Hmm, this makes me less keen to do it this way. Do you know what the cause of the failure was or what failed? I wonder if it's common with people who do this change.
