    Nanocom alternatives? Who has what

Does anyone on here own or have at least used an alternative to a Nanocom or Hawkeye? I can't justify the near on a grand for a nanocom. Surely there are cheaper alternatives that will do the same job?

Have seen a lot of these on ebay but with no return policy once package is opened im a little hesitant.

I have the v8 04 facelift model if that makes any difference.

Extremely limited function on àn OBD reader, as D2s are not OBD compliant.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

OBD2 is a communication standard that cars have needed to support for some time.

Back in the early 2000s the TD5 were exempt because of being diesel( there's probably a big story as to why).

    I THINK a V8 might be compatible, but I really don't know.

    As to what to use?

If it's OBD2 compliant, you have a massive choice!

    Cheers

I have one of these icarsoft for our other cars (Had a struggle to find something that would work on the wife's 02 Grand Vitara). Yes it does work on the D2 but a lot more limited what it can do, only limited to reading and clearing codes but can't code remotes etc and much more limited with tricky issues. Use to have a Nanocom and recently had issues which ended up being MAP and MAP sensors which had to borrow a friend's Nanocom to diagnose the issue properly

So basically does the exact same thing my current $30 bluetooth obd2 reader does on my phone? That's a shame.

Unfortunately the nanocom is about the only thing out there that can do a lot of stuff on older Land Rover models, being the TD5 and V8. unless you find the old Land Rover T4, which is pretty crap. I have 2 Nanocoms' the first one I sent back and forth so many times to get repaired it cost more in freight than its worth, the second one died about 6 months ago and figure its not worth repairing. I was a fan of the product to begin with, but not anymore.

But I am sure there will be many members on AULRO that have never had any issues with the Nanocom.

As a self confessed GAP Pro fan boy I doubt I will ever use anything else.
Unfortunately the GAP tool doesnt support older Land Rovers but is awesome for everything newer.

I have a Foxwell N630 Pro or something like that. Bought it for an audi a few years ago and not very dear. Turns out it has Land Rover loaded on it so I just bled all the brakes via the abs module at a touch of a button. Could not be easier and the brake pedal is like a normal car now instead almost hitting the flooring and requiring double pumps.

Steer clear of icarsoft, IMO the only relatively reliable alternative tool for Hawkeye at a decent price is Foxwell NT 530(or 520 or 510 Elite) nothing comparable with nanocom
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
