My guess would be that the rear diff is eating itself.![]()
Under load, i.e. low range up hill, going over "wombat holes" I get a rhythmic vibration, a grrr, grrr, quite pronounced. Part of me thinks the transfer case is flogging itself, another part think the clutch is oily. I noticed yesterday, as a mate was reversing the car, the driver's side rear wheel suddenly spun back, as if the clutch had been dropped, it hadn't.
Any ideas?

I've heard something like that before....it was transmission wind up.
are you running same size tyres? same tyre pressures? same diffs?
do you have diff locks? centre diff lock?
have you neautralised everything while rolling fwd, then similarly engaged/disengaged everything while moving fwd......this may/maynot show up your problem.
Rear diff eating itself is good. No metal on oil change. Good as in easyish to change.
Transmission wind up? um no. Center diff lock is off, no lockers. Same tyres, same pressures, front 32 rear 38.
Diff pinion preload, got leaks? Yes I have leaks! Not from the diffs, gearbox, transfer case and bell housing
