Post What exhausts are people running?

    Hey guys, first time poster

Recieving my new D2a Td5 soon and just wondering certains things for the exhaust.

Firstly is anyone running a 3 inch like in most modern dualcabs? i feel like ive only seen the stock system but with a decat or a muffler delete

Also any power gains from putting an ftermarket exhaust on?

    Thanks in advance guys!

I'm not so sure about 'power gains' from just doing the exhaust .. but I'd expect you could get more consistent power gains if you also do a remap(fuel mapping) upgrade too.

diesels respond to more fuel with more power, but also more black smoke and higher EGTs(exhaust gas temps) .. high exhaust temps = bad things will eventually happen to motor .. so you want to keep these temperatures to a certain maximum value.

I found that getting a new exhaust for my Tdi, increased EGT by a minimum 50°C on average .. maybe even a bit more. It's hard to get back to back comparisons when doing exhaust changes as many other variables come into play too.
But without touching the fuelling, and just quieting the Tdi's exhaust drone .. I had to defuel the injector pump to not melt the poor little slug in many driving situations.

Brothers Td5 came with a zero muffler exhaust system .. and was far too loud for around town driving, and droned like crazy at legal highway speeds. He then got a centre muffler fitted and made it bearable, but still too loud on any use of the accelerator.
So unless the road is totally flat, it's actually not a very nice highway experience(my tdi is much smoother).
I have to fix the exhaust manifold one day soon(and also ceramic coat it), and once that's done, I'll also get a rear muffler fitted too. Hopefully will make it a better cruiser once done.

Remember that wherever you go, you have a drive to get there, and you don't want to have to increase all other volumes(conversation or music) to compensate for noise that otherwise needn't be an annoyance.
Also!.. you don't want excessive noise from parts of the vehicle that otherwise don't normally make much(like exhaust and tyres), as this excessive noise can mask newly forming noises that can alert you to an impending failure.
    Arthur.

I had a 3 inch exhaust ( came with the car). Now I have a good original LR standard no cat exhaust from the wreckers. Car is now quieter with no loss of performance and a very good local indie was “quite impressed” on how our car drives.

So, save your $ for other goodies 😀.
    Cheers

I have a 3 inch exhaust no muffler it isn't overly loud you can certainly hear the turbo whistle I do how ever run a silencer power wise not much difference the best money spent was a stage 2 remap from Bruce Davis if I was to do any thing first I would consider a remap first. There are some great people on here who cas steer you in the right direction.

I suggest you try td5zilla remap he is in Qld and is half the price of Bruce Davis and double the performance on the Td5

    THIS!!
While it may seem like a heap of $s for what may seem like an unimporant electronic device .. but what it can from save you from time wasting/tail chasing issues ... those $s will come back to you in the end.

    Dont buy one.
worst thing I've ever done - locks you into the D2 platform. Its like buying Ryobi power tools and batteries.
Once you're invested you cant change. I'm on my third disco now because of this.

But yeah buy one, you'll need it
