Hey guys looking at some sliders for my new to me D2a and was just wondering if sill mounted is strong enough?, Coming from a dual cab i know ever see chassis mounted but all I can find online for ready made sliders are sill mounted

Have talked to a few people with a 50/50 response and just wanna hear from the rest of you guys!

    Thank you I appreciate it!

    Lifting

Had to lift the D2 after a SLS sensor failure on the Border track, there was no way to get the bottle jack under the vehicle in sand so we just used the rocksliders bar to Hi Lift the vehicle, no problem at all.

NOW and when fitted. Yeh it needs a wash

Fitting the slider by the way and there are about 12 bolts through the sill and although there was some flex but its down flat now!

Would comment on the chassis mount bars (not possible with SLS and ACE) but the distance from the chassis to the sill has to have enough strength to stop them flexing up into the sill and damaging it - just measured the distance from the edge of the chassis rail to the sill and it is about 55 cm's - that's a stout bit of metal required and the bars already are heavy!

I have sill mounted rock sliders. The drivers side bent up so much on a trip that the driver's door would not open. Plenty strong.

In my experience, the sill mounted sliders are plenty strong but the sills themselves tend to buckle. This is a common problem with the sort of rock crawling trails we do in Northern California. I can think of at least four D1 and D2 trucks in our local club that have had their doors jammed due to sliders bending up the sills. Most people just weld the sliders to the frame now.

I gave up on sill mounted sliders early on and built a set of bolt on frame mounted sliders. I added an extra cross member to brace the two sliders together and they have held up to a lot of abuse. If I built them again, I would use 3/16” (4.7mm) DOM tube rather than 1/8” (3.125mm) DOM which is common here in the US. The D2 is a heavy beastie.

It all depends on your use case. Lifting the side of the vehicle with a high lift is one thing, dropping the side of the vehicle 12” onto a rock is another.

Lovely work under there by the way, very impressive! Haven't seen the Adredelin4x4 arms on a unit before and looks like you have a 4"+ lift.

How far off are the sliders from the sill or do they also follow the contour of the sill?
