16 p to 10 p engine swap

Yes but it has to be opened and the chip unsoldered and replaced with a socket soldered in its place.

But each time you want to change the programming ( 'tune' ) the chip has to be removed from the socket (so taking ecu out and lid off each time) and replaced with another one with new tune, or if it is a re flashable chip it can be updated in a programming unit with the new tune.

I have 2 MSB units with sockets and a programmer and re flashable chips and fart around with tunes to my hearts content ( hobbyist not tuning guy). I've got it down pat and disconnect battery, lift ecu out over tray without unplugging it, lid off, pull chip out and replace with next 'no idea what I am doing' tune and back together again and cross fingers it starts and drives !

You can buy a used MSB from an auto and it will be ok in the manual too.

On ebay you will find tunes already programmed into chips and you buy the chip with the socket that needs to be soldered in.

I hate to correct you but for accuracy i have to say that for an auto ECU to be OK on a manual beside the remap it needs an invasive intervention to build the clutch switch's input circuit to pin 35 of the black plug which is missing in the auto ECU and without that will be surge on gear change, not a good option IMO even if the engine runs with it.

If you're changing up or down gears in normal driving without cruise engaged you are backing off on accelerator anyway between changes so not really an issue.

Problem is when you are in cruise and push clutch pedal and engine accelerates to keep up speed.

Bit of awareness and the driver can work around the few times that function may be needed.

I ran a tuned auto ECU in my Defender for a while and do not recommend. Its been a while so my memory fails me a bit on exactly how the vehicle behaved, but I'd certainly never do it again unless to get out of a pickle.

This is a good vid on what's involved in swapping the chip out. There's a few mobs around who'll do it and program it. Don't know if I'd trust (tune wise) the easily accessible UK ones though.

Just wondering if it's possible to configure out the "lift off flare" by playing around with the tables without a clutch switch?

It is, but not much is known about the maps that control it...

I've done a defender back here running a NNN500030, it's quite serviceable with it done, BUT if you have cruise control and use it...I wouldn't be trying that.

A programmable throttle controller should fix that. plus give 60 / 80 / 100 don't exceed setpoints and heaps of other stuff.

Stock CC is garbage anyway

Thanks for the info! How come you can't get it to program in-situ, like an NNN ecu will? And with your method of removing the re-flashable chip, are you able to code your 10p yellow top injectors into the ECU also?

Seems like a fair bit of stuffing around, but the only option I guess. I definitely wouldn't trust my soldering skills, to mount the socket.
