Thread: Won't go over 60km/h

Man this car has a curse i swear. So i was doing a few more tests, now the m&s are flashing, Code p1843 on the nanocom. The red light on the dash was blinking quickly while the car was running sorta like when the alarm gets tripped. Battery was showing 13.5 volts on nanocom and multimeter confirmed it also.

I revved the car right up to almost 4k in the driveway whilst in park without out any problems, shudders or anything, so not sure if that leads to anything. Only seems to an issue while actually driving the car.

Bosch sell a pump only, replacement; that saves a substantial amount, over replacing the complete assembly. A search of this section will reveal a link.

I took it for another drive after i switched out the air filter, old one was fine but might have been blocked. Car boosted to 0.8 on the nanocom but the problem is still there. I am not 100% convinced its the fuel pump and my reason is, if it was the fuel pump wouldnt the car shudder and splatter while you rev it in park, or is the HP side of the pump speed related. It feels like its holding gears and not changing properly, and when you are cruising at 60km/h and you jump on the throttle all it does is rev up to a bit over 3k and just holds the speed, like there is no forward drive at all and when you lower the revs and baby it drives. Whereas before this it would pull very nicely and accelerate away. Also on this drive the ms lights lit up and the car wouldnt even get to 40km/h without shuddering and being sluggish, pulled over turn the car off and back on and it was back to driving normally to 60km/h, but still bad after that.

I had the same problem twice while I owned my d2.

once was leaking turbo hose. easy fix once found.

other was fuel pump. pop your pump, it isnt hard , you need to cut a flap in your rear carpet. from there its almost elementary. it could be the filter screen if you've had a load of gunky fuel. if the screen is obviously blocked, clean it and reinstall it...a doddle now you know. ensure the retaining ring is down on the pump before you push against the spring to screw it down. be gentle with the quick connects , they get brittle.

after your reinstall , you will know within minutes if it was pump filter screen.

I did same process but my pump was knackered and replaced.

As long as you dont get around 22 mV reading on F10 it's the pump or a voltage drop on that circuit due to some weak contact somewhere, simple as that, you should measure voltage across the WP and black wires in it's plug while it's running. Another thing which can confirm that is that you don't hear a loudish hissing sound in the engine bay if you start the 5 throttle purge trick.

Found this video and its exactly the same as what my car is doing. So its cant be anything else but the pump at this point, as the fuse trick showed 0 volts, and its doing what old matey in the video did when he took out the fuse and relay.

I was just confused on how my car still managed to drive with the fuel pump not working but after seeing that, well its proven it doesnt need it.

Also so much for the unreliable landrovers, I don't know too many other vehicles that manage to get you home without a fuel pump.

I'm glad that you found a confirmation from somebody who painted his engine in red if you didnt believe me

I didnt say i didnt believe you, was just taken aback by the fact the car still runs without the pump as this is not a normal function of a dead fuel pump.

Anyways i will order one and post back my results
