Ticking from driveline when off throttle?

So the ol' d2a auto seems to have a new ticking sound when you are OFF the throttle and coasting. Happens at almost any speed as far as i can tell. As soon as input goes into the throttle it goes away and the ticking stops. Lift off the throttle, ticking comes back.

Can't actuality hear or feel it in the cab with windows up but becomes incredibly apparent when your driving next to armco railing or anything that will bounce the sound back at you.

Its definately driveline related as tempo changes with car speed and not engine rpm.

Ive seen a lot of forum posts for the opposite of this (ticking under load) but haven't been able to find anything quite like this?

Can anyone on here shed some light on this?

    Thanks all

Do you have lengthened aircon drains to avoid water on the front UJ of the Cardan joint?
If not it's probably that .

If it is,get onto it ASAP,as they often cause a heap of damage when they let go.

Are you suggesting the ticking is a timebomb?

No. Ill have a look but ive been greasing the uni's front and rear regularly since I've owned it. Havent noticed anything out of the norm.

If it was the uni, would it not be a constant noise? Why would it stop with the bare minimum of throttle input though?

Load on the driveline is why it will stop.
Keeps the pressure on the slop then release acceleration slop is allowed to happen.

Ha! once the damage is done it will eventually fail.
I extended my drains 8 years ago and grease regularly.
About 1 year ago, I was doing a Uturn and heard a slight noise and sure enough it was the UJ.

What's everyone's opinions on pricing for a new propshaft? I've seen fronts going for $400 and upto $800+

Or have any of you gents gone down the rebuild path? Ide been keen to hear some feedback from someone that's gone down that route.

Cheers guys Ticking from driveline when off throttle?
