    Coils to SLS

    Are these a straight swap?
    Any traps for the unwary?

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Do you have a donor car with all the bits? I don’t believe it’s difficult- much much easier than an ACE swap!

I do have the wiring loom for the SLS, it came from a donor car, I have the rest of the bits, I am wondering how easy it is to remove the coils, as no one has said anything about this it must be straight forward.

I think we were waiting for clarification, Julian. Yes, that is the easiest part of the job. it requires that you disconnect the damper and possibly the sway bar and jack the body until the spring is not in compression, and then you can wiggle it out. Maybe do one side at a time as I don't think you have a hoist. The air springs are easier to get back in. I don't recall if you have a Nanocom, but you'll need one or similar to tell the car it's now SLS.

My info comes from doing it the other way around.

    ...haha.
I reckon if a D2 driver has "three torque wrenches" ... then they'd almost certainly have a nanocom

Yep!... you need to calibrate the ride level once they're fitted and working.

I have new dampers. At present the rear gets close to hitting the stops, going over speed bumps. I'll install and deflate manually as I need to work on the bent compressor shelf!
I plan on using a high lift jack on the rear steel bar to lift up the body and then put axle stands on/under? the chassis so the wheels will just hang there. The car will NOT be supported on the hi lift jack, just the axle stands and the front wheels. I call the hi lift jack "The Widow Maker"

I do have a Nanocom and I have put in the off road height switch!

are you planning to do one wheel (lifted) at a time or both wheel up on one side together.

Just remember that if you choose to do both wheels on one side at the same time, that your handbrake doesn't work .. so chock wheels.
If you do both axles lifted at the same time and have diff lock locked, handbrake does work tho.

As for springs coming out. It depends on the springs fitted.
When I did the springs and shocks on the D2, it had long travel springs(but goofballs that fitted them, didn't fit extended brake lines! ) .. and they didn't just slide out.
So with brakes and ABS lines disconnected .. still didn't come out.

Luckily I had spring compressors, which don't work when you've extended the springs. I had to lower D2, fit spring compressors to limit their travel .. then lift the body.
As I only had the normal two piece spring compressor, I could therefore only do one corner at a time.
side note: I also had to use the spring compressors to refit the new long travel springs too.
    Arthur.
