Hi all I thought i might pose this question here , as it has been puzzling me for awhile.
my Disco 2 has been running mostly well with no obvious issues apart from the usual maintenance.
some time ago I thought i might add some gauges as i'd rather know whats going on under the car .
i added a 4 way X piece to where the oil pressure sensor (low pressure red light) so that i could add an actual pressure gauge and a temperature one also . now it was a cheap ebay set and the temperature sensor seemed to block the middle , right from the get go i was getting wierd readings mostly 0 . but would occasionally spike as high as 150 but typically upto 25 or 13 and back to zero . i thought it was either blocked or just a poor connection as there was really no other symptoms. i did borrow a mates manual snap on gauge start it idle was 20-30 and free rev reached about 80 seemed normal . I put in a larger x piece so as to have more clearance and volume but on a long run - 5 hours in very cold night air pressure was fluctuating in the teens to 30 and 0 with the occasional 60.80,150 but alarmingly oil temp was at 150 EGT was 300 at 70kph and about 450 at 110 ... im starting to suspect that the readings are true due to the temperature , I suspect a faulty pressure relief valve - would explain the readings being all over the place
Thoughts anyone ???
Hi, i can't say anything about your setup or how accurate it is but as long as the original oil pressure warning is working and not comming on you should be on the safe side , as about what pressure is normal here you go, (copied from the WSM):
Pressure at idle (Cold) 3.0 bar (43.5 lbf.in2)
Pressure at 3500 rev/min (Hot) 1.5-3.0 bar (21.75-43.5 lbf.in2)
Relief valve opening pressure 4.0 bar (58 lbf.in2)
Low oil pressure switch opening pressure 0.2-0.6 bar (3.0-8.8 lbf.in2)
