D1s and D2s alike, prices are everywhere. Son picked up a D1 300TDI, good nick $3000, around the same time someone was trying to sell a slightly older one with a rather solid hit on the right-hand rear corner for $7500
Hi all, against my better judgement I am having a little look to see whether my son can pick up a D2 with reasonable miles with a good service history. Unfortunately he will be living remote so I cannot help him with fixing broken things. Interesting though are 2 things - 1. there seems no consistency to pricing anymore (including sky high pricing for some well over $20k for fairly original models) and 2. many TD5's have the same or lower pricing for same sort of miles as a V8 - that never used to be the case. More an observation post than anything else (and of course if a member here has a great version the lad might be interested - I know the V8 and know what goes wrong (very little overall if there are no structural issues with the block and head gaskets can be done readily), so that would probably be best, although with the prices of second hand ones I dont readily see the value compared to other makes and TD5's when considering range and fuel economy Cheers.

Prices on all cars are still all over the place. Covid pricing is over. 10 year old cars are no longer worth more than they were new. Some people aren't ready to accept this quite yet. Defenders are a good example where the older ones went from being $15k cars, to $30k cars all of a sudden. There are still heaps advertised for long times at $25k+ and a few at more reasonable prices that seem to actually sell.
I haven't been looking at the prices or Discos too much, but I did just buy a manual D1 with almost no rust for $1500. It wasn't drivable though (blown headgasket).
I just gave my D1 away. Lots of good parts and good engine, transmission etc. I like the D1 but prefer the lad get a D2 out of the 2. Actually I prefer he gets a Pajero and he probably will but if the D2's come back down to where they should be given their particular 'requirements' I would probably be happy to see him in one - provided a get a chance to do some basic troubleshooting (preventative maintenance such as re-sealing around windscreen etc) before he left. Cheers
We paid 15.5 K for our discovery 2 , v8 back in 2005.
With original 130 km on the clock now, with service books I am sure we could sell it for more now, then what we've paid for it all those years ago..
The good ones are hard to find and most have a lot of km.
