BMW N57 8hp to TD5 Auto adapter kit

Ordered the seals, bearings and cover last night and the tracking is telling they will be delivered Tuesday!!!

The handbrake which I am replacing with a disk, so the cable requires lengthening as will the Hi Lo and Diff Lock, these things that you dont think about until your eyes are locked on the issue. Hmmm small brackets or replace the cable, the Diff Lock maybe turned around backwards, with 4H in the upper left quadrant.... Have to laugh as these are things that no one tells you about until, you do it, and, all this thinking about it and yet this escaped.

Bearings, seals and HC Sump delivered on Tuesday and spent the afternoon cleaning, well reasonable level of dirt and such removed after a couple of hours, then installing the ATB. Had a measured end float of just on the spec of .002" when assembled first up which is the specified end float.

Then an issue when all tightened up with silicon not a gasket, just a bit too firm, it turned smoothly but seemed just a fraction tight. Is this a concern or should we shim with the thinnest we have? Would using gaskets have solved the issue and do you have to make allowance for using silicon over gaskets??

LR use RTV now. Mike just did a series on doing up a 230 with an Ashcroft ATB. Might be worth a look. Personally, without being able to feel what "too firm" is, I imagine it will wear in.

Thanks, it is so marginal as the feel of it, just concerned as to any implications of being marginally too tight. Wearing in may be the answer! It turns without restriction, certainly doesnt spin loosely when 'comparing' to dismantling, I have no idea if they did it correctly when they rebuilt it.

Still hoping to get out on the tracks Grand Final weekend, 4 wheels and 8 speeds.

Having now tried for the last couple of months to communicate with HTG as to guidance with the installation of the 8HP to the D2, and, due to fact that I am booked in on Monday to install the gearbox, that to this date I have not recieved any meaningful assistance from HTG that I am satisfied will enable the completion of the project and as to being ably assured to get the gearbox to communicate to the engine and drive the D2 off the ramps.

Tonight I sent another email this time requesting refund and shipping details for the return of the equipment.


It has left me in the rather parlous state of having to get a Transfer Box quickly to replace the one I have now put the ATB and 1.003 ratio in as well as the now shortened (2") rear shaft from the D2

Unfortunately, am not able to get onto facebook, tried with another log in and they blocked me so obviously have not been able to even know of the page. This is probably my last chance before I have get the alternative unit.. Sure there must be people who looked at the MW MACHINES vids and as I did went the HTG way so others are no doubt running with the CAN IO. Worse than this is they are still taking orders for product.

The real frustration is that the unit probably works as is, but a 2.5 tonnes lump stuck on a workshops ramp is not my DNA. Have been chasing up the owner of HTG last night and this morning (obviously he is on FB and Instagram) and the only way of contacting him directly was on Linked IN so have done that.

So generous and thanks, am going to give this one last try before giving up. So have cancelled Monday and have a quick link if I can resolve some issues.

Well today and thanks Slunnie, got onto that FB page via my brother in law as to registering for the group, this is English so a little bit of a wait for them to wake up and get us on.

Also went to the HTG Facebook website, they have it would appear a major issue with a sacked partner wiping their database a few months ago. They are supposedly getting it back on line but the dates of the communication and progress were not what I call, inspiring. I am not the only disgruntled customer...

Had contact with Andrew of 8 Speed Auto fame in QLD as to the Turbolamic CANCTU solution and he is not of the belief they will be any good for the TD5 and 8HP (I know HTG have done it...). Have been over their website and they have a different way of going about things but their information is first rate and actually helpful. Also asked the company Turbolamic for assistance as they may have actually done such a conversion with one of the other 19 persons who have purchased the adaptors from Syncro.

So Shads from Syncro got back to me as to others and he pointed me to,,, facebook, urggggh!!!!! He also suggested that I again try Marcus at MWMachines for some guidance which I will do after this.

So as frustrating and tail chasing as this is, have been studying as much as possible the HTG solution. There are some titbits that interesting as to looking at the solutions for standalone engine ECU such as Haltech and Ecumaster etc. that being this

HTG SUITE has “Ecumaster EMU Black” CAN preset available in General Settings.

So guessing that they should also have TD5 in their general settings as well then as they do state they have OEM support but do not list the OEM supported platforms, they have done the TD5!

That said this has been unchanged since they did these pages last year and reaching out for support has only drawn blanks.

So plan this weekend
Hook up 12V power supply to the HTG cable harness
Hook up the CAN IO to this, the gearbox and the Shifter
Get the Laptop and try to get Windows to provide driver for the CAN IO and hopefully the software platform will not drop out immediately after starting.

If the software shows the TD5 as being available to communicate / protocols then proceed on with install in a fortnight.
