Unplug it and if you dont get open circuit that way then you should rule out the DCU but if you get the open circuit the problem is beyond that connector toward the bag

Thanks. SF. I already replaced the clock spring but stupidly didn't think to redo the test with it unplugged. Well. in my defence I did have the battery off....

Remember that in most cases the clock spring faults are "open circuit", i've never seen short circuit code which was caused by the clock spring as the tracks in it get interrupted not shorted, for a short circuit it should be exposed to some physical "intrusion" or water ingress iMO.

I did the clock spring before I decided I needed a nanocom again. But thanks for that. Makes sense.

OK. Unplugged. Nanocom now says driver's airbag open circuit. I'm a little nervous screwing around with the airbag itself. Heard enough loud bangs in my life.
Is there a safe way of testing this, or is it a new bag required. According to the Nano the bag is the original fitted to the car.

Of course, the clock spring I got could be as bad as the one originally in the car. I guess I'm safe testing the one I have sitting around!

Hmm... found an old thread on LandyZone which you, SF, contributed to. Still none the wiser except in that it seems likely that a SH rotary coupler is just as likely to be as bad as the one I already have, and doesn't help as to testing them....

To check the bag you need a resistor to connect instead of it dont mess with multimeter in the bag's plug... probably you need a new one

    google out "airbag simulator resistor"

I changed the cluster today for one that's not cracked. synced the odo to the BCU. Noticed that the SRS light is not on. Now, I know the fault is still logged, so I guess someone has been into this cluster before me.... I have no intention of selling the car, and the guy said I could blank off the light.... but I still want to fix it. Eventually. Anyone know a good source of driver airbags??? There are a few in the UK, but of course they can't be posted...
