Oil sealing - TD5 vacuum pump
I have TD5 alternator on the work bench. When I removed the vacuum pump quite a bit of oil was in the female splined recess of the alternator and oil continued to flow from rear face of the vacuum pump - where the splined male drive sticks out. Should this rear male drive shaft have an internal seal?
It is a genuine LR unit and no sign of oil leaking when the vacuum pump was mounted to the alternator - there is just a machined flat face between the two.
With just a machined flat face and no intervening o ring or gasket, This indicated to me that there should be no oil leaking from the rear of the vacuum pump.
Thanks - just need to know if I need a new vacuum pump.
