If the phone is in your bag in the boot, then that's illegal.

The newish Victorian distracted driver rules are quite interesting, in that you cannot scroll though menus on phones or inbuilt devices, even fully licensed drivers.
This would make driving most modern cars interesting, I joke with a friend that he is not allowed to turn on the wipers in his Tesla while driving.

It's fairly well documented that having children in the back seat is far more distracting than talking on a phone, but nobody suggests banning kids.
In any case, anyone who cannot hold a conversation whilst driving should perhaps consider taking the bus.
Texting, scrolling a playlist, or anything else that requires looking at the screen is a whole other matter. And yet, just how big will screens in cars get? In some cars it seems that the whole bloody dash is nothing but screen. Why isn't the gubment banning Teslas?

Could be worse, Qld P platers can't drive a stage one cos it's a "high performance" V8.

Yes, most of the flipout ones do, and most of the 1.5 DINS also do. its pretty common these days. I have an aliexpress 1.5 DIN and it came with steering wheel control wiring but my D2 doesnt have them

I listen to talk back radio. I while ago a bloke rang and told this story.

He was a passenger in the car his P plate son was driving. They were pulled into an RBT.

The cop happened to notice that the screen on his dash said "streaming music"

When questioning the driver, the cop was told that he was listening to music being blue toothed from phone.

    He was booked for this.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I did the Q8 7 inch, 4gb 64gb model. It has been great so far, considering I paid $170 delivered, and anything with wireless carplay that was brand named was $700+

The Tesla does have automatic wipers.

    That is true.
You also don't have to scroll through menus to get the the wiper controls, they are are always displayed on the the lower right corner of the touch screen.

The first time I drove said Tesla was at night, in the rain, on the Hume Fwy.

Almost past a B double the auto wipers decided it was all to hard and stopped, so the cameras couldn't see, so the cruise control dropped out.

A Tesla, if you've never driven one, is sort of a one pedal drive, it has a brake pedal but you don't really use it, when you lift off the throttle it goes into regen braking, lift right off and it slows very quickly, much much quicker than I brake 99% of the time in my cars.

So in the pouring rain, in dark, in all the spray from the B double the car goes full regen braking, and I'm doing 40 in the RH lane!
I have no hope of finding the wiper controls on the touch screen.

I thank my lucky stars there was no one behind me.

Basic driving suff like wiper controls should be tactile, you shouldn't have to look to use them. IMHO.

    Tony
