A good look at the images made that obvious to me. Two locating studs at the bottom, and a pad at the top with a cutout for the coil end. And way too big to fit inside existing coils. You going to give 'em a go, Dave? Very interested in how they are.

If they are direct replacement i dont understand what those many bolts/nuts are for and unfortunately it's not visible in the pic how the inside of theyr's bottom looks cos it should look like this

Let's say they fit directly .... IMO it's way too expensive instead of "classics" just for a presumed higher longevity

From what I've seen, I reckon the total travel of the triple concertina bags look to be slightly less than the std D2 bags.
I only say this from the experience that I have a spare D2 air bag(dead, but still opens/closes .. and I have a couple of triple concertina air jacks(highly recommended for lifting vehicles too [thumbsupbig])
So I don't have these BOSS bags, but looking at them, they appear to be pretty much the same, just smaller diameter than the jack bags. Jack bags have about 200mm -ish of travel.

So the question then becomes how do they 'stack up' when using the off road height mode.

And for sierrafery. The bottom of the std D2 air bag is like that because the mount plate on the axle has the 90° twist tab system to locate the bottom side of the air bag. With the BOSS bags, (I think)you replace the plate on the axle with theirs which has bolt holes to attach their air bags. Thats why they look different.

personally, I'd stick with the D2 bags. I have experience with many trucks(and buses) over the past 15-ish years, pretty much all of them use air bags nowadays.
Only come across 2 'replaced' airbags, and only one dead/burst bag. The two that were replaced was only as a precaution, as the rubber is slightly cracked, and I kept them for 'frankenengineering' purposes ... one day.
On the brothers' trucks(the two bags we replaced, and I kept), we used to give them a spray with rubber care products(some guys reckon WD is also good) when servicing.

Can't handle crossing the Simpson desert towing a Tvan. Started trip with 2 in the car that were 12 months old.

I carried 2 brand new spares. All 4 were Conti brand, made in Germany.

Before the trip was finished I had gone through all 4 of them and finished the last 100 odd km to Birdsville on bump stops. Not much fun.

I was then stuck there for 4 days waiting for a new set to be flown in.

In the last 12 months I have now spent around $1,200 just on bags.

And just to add to the cost. As the stay over in Birdsville was not planned, I ran out of beer. 30 can block was $98! Wine for SWMBO was $39 for what would be $20 back home.

Do you think this could have been the sand getting into the fold of the bag and abrasively wearing the rubber out? Certainly the fact that a new set wore out so quickly may indicate such - I take it that the bags did not rip or such just leak.

Sort of sounds like it needs a stocking or such to keep the sand out, have a vague memory of such being discussed previously.

I seem to recall one even before then... same brand, the guy seemed to get it all working and was quite happy, but the bags were put in for a reason.. not for replacement..

Above left. There is a hairline crack to the left of arrow running along where the raised bit meets the flat.
This is not visible to the naked eye.

The one on the right lasted 24 hours

This last one was one of the ones that was flown into Birdsville and was fitted on the 28th of last month. Dunlop brand.

Travelled from Birdsville to Brisbane and Brisbane to Tatura(Vic)

Removed this today. Will be trying for warranty on this one, but I wont hold my breath.
