    Water gauge

    Hi all,

I think it is time to get one of these installed after replacing the whole cooling system.

    Which one would you recommend?

I would like to do the job myself, so I was thinking of installing a mechanical gauge.

With a digital one, can you just use the existing factory sensor on the manifold to plug in?

    cheers

Do you mean a temperature gauge or water level alarm?

    What motor do you have?

We installed a Gauge Innovations low coolant and block temp gauge in the young fella D1, and happy with it.
Engine Temperature and Coolant Level Dash Gauge
    – Gauge Innovations

The low coolant sensor just sticks on to the plastic coolant bottle, no hole needed.
The temp gauge has settable alarms, and the brightness is adjustable.

I would think that a D2 motor will be using the factory temp sender as part of the engine management.
I believe you can display the temp, among other things on a Nanocom, the D2 folk will confirm.

If it is a TD5,there is a threaded bleed plug in the top radiator hose that can be used.
Petrol maybe the same but I am unfamiliar with it.

I don't have the D2 any longer, but the V8 did have a threaded bleed plug in the top radiator hose.

Sticking your finger out the window is more accurate that the factory gauge. Water gauge

I’d use a VDO or similar half decent electric gauge (VDO used to be better but they aren’t bad still compared to the cheap crap out there) - much simpler install that a mechanical gauge and accurate. There should be a spot for a sender just near the thermostat housing.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
