I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

So an update the harmonic balancer has been replaced still had a rattle when you turned the A/C on disappeared when A/C turned off, so my mechanic went looking for some other reason for the noise after much searching found 2 of the 3 exhaust nuts that hold the exhaust pipe to the turbo were missing and the 3rd was very loose. I have now replaced the 2 missing bolts my mechanic tightened the loose nut so hoping all is good now.

SubscriberI've a question to those that chose the Ross Harmonic Balancer. What made you choose that brand?
Reason for my asking is that I'm trying to figure out the cause of the noise vibration and harshness (NVH) in my TD5 Auto that occurs mainly at 2250 RPM.
Of all the threads about this issue on all the forums, there is no definitive answer.
However, the is is an engine revolutions related vibration, not related to the gear the vehicle is in.
So in my view its in the engine or Torque Converter or some where in between.
Hence I'm toying with the idea of replacing the Harmonic Balancer to start with but want to be sure it will be a quality one.
Has anyone any views?
I used Ross on recommendation for performance and longevity. Been happy with it for over four years.

I just put one in my car recently. Had to pull old harmonic balancer out as timing gear basically went boom. Discovered old hb was also pretty well past use by so did some research after fellas here recommended it. I upgraded to one based on the wonderful reviews here, and my want for a smoother motor so to speak. I find it very noticeable how smooth my car is now running. Some was likely stretched timing chain too but that hb has made a massive difference. Wanting a longer service life as well. I depend on my car more than most as it is the only car I can drive with my hand controls. So helping the old girl stay reliable

SubscriberYes, I've eliminated the Handbrake shoes. Gently lifting the handbrake while engine is at 2250 RPM makes no difference. The harshness is not from the handbrake area. Still believe its in the engine somewhere.
