D2 td5 with v8 auto gearbox
Hey guys I'm in the middle of swapping the v8 gearbox and torque converter into my td5 and have run into some issues. I was aware that the v8 case is about 60mm shorter than the td5, to fix this I planned on swapping over the extension housing off as well as the spacer from the td5 box that came out of the car but the output shafts seem to be significantly different lengths to point that the spacer i have takes up all of the shaft on the v8 box. Any guidance on how I can get around this? Don't really want to go out and buy another gearbox if i don't have to.

Hi
You'll need to strip down both boxes and swap the output shaft from the TD5 into the V8, no other way around it.
If The V8 unit came with the torque converter, and you intend to keep the D2, then you'd be better off getting it serviced, ordering a Kit from Ashcrofts and fitting that as well.
I'm saying this because a lot of the time, the TD5 converters fail first, then cause failure of the trans.
I don't do the above without having tested the box and/or overhauling first, it's too big a job to have to pull the box a 2nd time.
Don't forget to completely flush out the cooler lines and cooler as well.
