have had the consul out a few time but never taken a look were the switch is.
The actual switch is not pictured, but it is located here. Would be pretty tight to get to from above. Not too bad from below apart from the bloody exhaust pipe, especially if it's not decat.

I think it would be significantly worse for your back to try to do it from the top. To be honest, I'm not really convinced you could do it through the top, but its really easy to access from underneath. You will also need to adjust it once you've installed it so that the switch reads accurately.
As SimonMelb says, if your back is shot, then maybe try a creeper and some ramps.

I doubt that it would be possible.

It really is a job to do underneath. Pretty easy. As suggested, a creeper, or better still an assistant. From underneath it's just there, in front of you. Even the adjustment is easy if you take care undoing it.

Thanks all,I managed it from underneath,One thing i learnt from some where is the power for the reverse lights run's through the switch, the disco has 2 extra reverse lights from the last owner fitted inline with the existing lights, that would probably explain the burnt looking contacts inside, anyway gave it a clean and regrease bent the pins out and so far so good.now to let the back settle down, wish i had a hoist.
