    Roof Wiring

I want to fit a couple of work lights to the rear of the roof rack.

Looking for suggestions on the best way to get wiring into roof.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Depends on whether you are comfortable drilling a hole in your roof panel. On my D1 I ran the wires, suitably sealed, up through the snorkel with a Deutsch connector to facilitate removing the rack. Of course, you need to have a snorkel for this to work...... On a D1 you could also run the wires out through the rear washer hole, but D2s don't have that.

Any option will be a compromise. If it's going to be permanent and you are keeping the car then a hole and a good grommet through the roof is probably the best option. If the cosmetics worry you then perhaps running the wires up the outside of the "A" pillar under the windscreen trim could work. I'll be interested in how you go, as I have a half rack for mine which could use some lights. As it's a half rack I don't want to use the snorkel idea.

I don't want to use the A pillar option as I often tie stuff to the roof rack and I don't want wiring running from front to rear.

Drilling a hole in the roof does not greatly concern me as the lights will be a permanent installation. My only concern would be that it does not leak.

Hi I ran out my wires through the left A pillar and used a small plug and socket to connect just near the front corner. In the gutter.
I also have run the wires to the back through the inside of the roofrack tube using rubber grommets to stop chaffing..the wires are hidden and don’t get caught anywhere.
I have a full length Ali Roofrack
I used a spare switch on the binnical to switch a relay to turn the lights on or off when needed🙂
Been like that now for 4 years and no issues
