    Stock D2 but double the height measurements on rear suspension, why?

    I've measured my suspension heights and they are:

    Hub center to wheel arch (the plastic part):


    Front driver: 483/484mm
    Front passenger: 493mm
    Rear driver: 471mm
    Rear passenger: 474mm

    Bump stop to axle bracket


    Front driver 96/97 mm
    Front passenger 100 mm
    Rear driver 121/122 mm
    Rear passenger 125 mm

    The RAVE manual says that the rear (with SLS/air springs) should be 61.5 mm for the bump stop clearance. Mine is double that!

    But the hub to center wheel arch from the RAVE manual (not liner) is close to mine at: 473 mm (+/- 15 mm).

    What could have happened here?

    Did I measure wrong? From the bump stop’s metal plate to top of axle right?

    I've got:
    • Factory shocks, coils, airbags, ACE, etc. (HSE 2003 V8 Discovery 2)
    • I'm running tyres about 1-1.5 inches bigger than stock (265/60/18)
    • No bullbar or accessories

    Somebody with a nanocom probably recalibrated them, I had an air bag version once and jacked them up a bit.

    I would measure from bump stop rubber to the plate on the axle.

    I remember setting mine using the bump stop to chassis 61.5mm measurement and it was shockingly low.

    So I just parked it on a level slab and set it level by eye.

    Going by your measurements I must have got it reasonably right.

    I have 520 mm from wheel centre to wheel arch. This is roughly 50 mm more than yours and I have a 50 mm lift.

    How did you set the height? Via Nanocom?

    Back in the day (early 2000's) we developed the suspension using hub to guard measurements. These were all accurate according to RAVE specs. Interestingly the coil sprung D2's all sat at the very lowest tolerance for ride height at approx 470mm (except 1 sample), and the SLS sat up higher closer to 485mm. I'd just run with hub to guard measurements.

    Bump-stop clearance is the distance between the tip of the bump-stop and the contact point on the axle. Is that what you've measured?

    As i'm quite lazy i found the easyest way without any measurement... i'm using a 2 way T type bubble leveller on the boot floor and when the bubbles are both within marks i store those heights i dont know if the heights are as in the book but i'm sure it's equal all around

    I good trick, I have wondered in the past how LR came up with the way the D2 sits, as from the factory it present a bit tail down. I actually think it is like that to bring more stability into the rear, but it also wouldn't surprise me if what you've done works as well! Great trick!
