Thankyou everyone Rebuilding a TD5 that's a fantastic thread! I still have to finish the timing chain fix video and post it!
But will be photos what ever way I go haha.
If i got a new motor, I don't know if a newer td5 (15p) would be a good plan? With the improvements they have over 10p? But mines done so well really.
I think I'll likely end up trying to rebuild mine, I know it's whole history pretty much (still chat to its old owner as well which is so good!)
But think making it like new again, might be most cost-effective in the long run. Plus kind of fancy getting stuck into it Rebuilding a TD5

Is it worth sourcing a second hand one to keep the car going and take your time on the rebuild?

Wow! The Whole Earth Catalogue !! Brings back so many memories of my Uni/Hippy days. You just picked a page and you had hours of fun not to mention the story excerpts on the bottom/side of every page.
Great memories of pictures of old ploughs, washing machines, you name it.
    Cheers,
    Peter

I'm involved / overseeing the development of a 'catalogue' that has absolutely nothing to do with cars atm. The concept to me is for a catalogue of 'access to tools' along the lines of the Whole Earth Catalogue from the 70's.

A couple of uni graduates spotted two evolutions of hard copies of this in my bookshelves and wanted to get them out to have a look and actually handle them.It was something they'd read about and respected the concept.

Sure I said, but why? They said they'd never seen physical samples of this revolutionary concept, which in a lot of ways was the precursor to the concept of the internet.

All the pictures of seed planting machines and ploughs and bread makers and...... And also the serialised story with a excerpt on each page.

I haven't got much on there at the moment. I'm having much needed rest time this week so planning on finally finishing the timing gear journey video and hopefully having it uploaded this weekend!
Then the disco rebuild will start early in new year which I'll be documenting it as I go. Currently just doing the research and making a list of all I'll need parts wise. Plus will need things balanced/machined I suppose.
Deciding to replace, upgrade or just recore the turbo as well.
Thinking when it's all done and run in, I'll make a trip to TDZilla for a really good tune?
Im actually excited to do it myself as well. That's plan at present at least. not sure where to go for the machining bits yet though.

I love the Bently/Land Rover one. The Landie version wins on all accounts. Better car, better model.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
