Most ( not all ) will do this, I think it's dependant on which TCU you have.
Can you swap them over with another car and find out?
My new to me D2a.
Got it all sorted a while back now, don't drive it much even tho it's the best to drive of all 3 discos.
but when I do get a chance to drive it, it drives me nuts, in that the torque converter will not lockup under any circumstances if I use use cruise control up to 100k/h.
When using right foot, it locks up at 80-ish(hard to see accurately) but maybe 82, maybe 81 maybe 83 ... but when using right foot, lockup is fine.
so lets say I'm using right foot, get to 95k/h will lockup no probs.
I disengage cruise for a bit, slow to 75, then hit resume ... no way will not lockup again unless I disengage cruise, use right foot locksup again and then hit cruise .. stays locked up no prob.
no idea where to start investigating.

As Craig mentioned above...
Can you find out what revision TCU you have?
It's under the passenger seat, should only take 10 minutes to pull it.
LR part number should start IGG.
if you can post that number here, I'll see if I can tell you what's going on.
Cheers
I'll take a punt your CC behaves like this:

Ah, OK ... I do have the std TD5 TCU from 'ICY'(the first TD5) ... I swapped it out for the V8 TCU.
Problem, where is it in the mad mayhem move I did some months back. I know it's there, just gotta find it.
I went having a quick scour through the boxes of bits when James asked about anyone with spare TCUs from EU2s and stuff, but no luck.
I'll try to find it and swap to see if it helps.
Back when ICY had it's TD5 TCU, I do remember it would lock no problem at 80(ish) on CC.
So this TCU dependent anomaly, is this D2a's only or any TD5 TCU?

TCU dependant.
The IGG000070 TCU is a problem on cruise.
Thanks Shack.
When I find the spare unit, I'll post back with what number I have.
Will also confirm with nephew too, he also got a D2a going recently, and I think similar problems, will get him to check it too.
You still doing the TCU tunes?
Any new progress, advanced features/abilities you've discovered?

Dunno how to answer that!
Things stalled basically due to complete lack of time, main job was taking about 60+ hrs a week, and I couldn't keep up.
I have recently started doing a bit again.
I can do all shift points, all lock and unlock points, I can lock in every gear, tune engine detorque for smoother or quicker shifts.
A few off-road low range tricks, but stuff was already really good for low range tbh.
I'm still working on more effective line pressure control and adaptive shift selection.
So for 95% of uses, I can do pretty much everything required.
Anything else you were wondering about?
so I found the wretched thing.
quick backstory: I moved house some months back. I used about 20 of those large storage containers from Bunnings to store many parts and tools and stuff, as I moved myself. So easy to load/and store until I could unpack.
I have about 3 or 4 of them with D2 bits and bobs. None marked tho .. and remember about 20 of them.
Moved them here and there and all over the place and found nought!
Idiot me!! ... I put it in a small open box, with D1 parts ... didn't I!!
It was right there on top of everything, easy to find all the time.
I also posted in your TCU thread James, but for the sake of completeness in this thread, heres a pic.

Finally had a chance to replace TCU with the earlier model TCU I had.
As usual, you guys were spot on.
On first drive, it didn't seem to make any difference, but I did note first to second change a bit earlier/less right pedal needed, but about 2klms into test drive, and no difference.
Coolant got to 67-70 ish.
Did a U turn, coolant now up to nearly 80, drove home, set cruise to 81 and bang on, TC lockup very nice, so much more relaxed ... much better.
So now have a spare '070' TCU (that operates dreadfully) thats just sitting around!![]()
