Thanks to all, and I hope Colmoore gets it sorted.

I was thinking about this too. I think it is a cheaper, lighter, easier, faster, non-servicing and much longer lived setup than fully floating.

However, you cant just pull an axle like in a full floating setup and its significantly more expensive and harder to replace the bearings at home or in the bush due to the stake nut.

I think hub bearing units are probably becoming pretty standard these days over stub axles.

    100%.

so much quicker to change bearing in D2 compared to D1(and old Defer).
I wasnt' trying to achieve any records, but doing all four on the D1 took two days. I reckon about 3hrs each corner. Now minimum half hour is to drift out each bearing race, but the assembly part takes so much longer than just a few bolts that the D2 really needs.
Be a lot more careful with the seals in the D1 compared to the D2 .. etc.
Having recently done a front hub in the D2, I think it barely took an hour to finish it.
Add up all that labour saving on the D2 compared to D1 style bearing setup, and they'd save millions in build time on the production line per year.
    Arthur.

Thanks to everyone for your input/feedback Little diff issue saved me doing something sketchy!

I tend to stay off my phone when on holidays, hence the long time replying.

Turned out that Greg (Getit Auto) was back at work whilst I was on holidays (I worked through Xmas/NY and took a break in early NY, back to work tomorrow) so I travelled back home in my wife’s car and organised a tilt tray tow to his workshop. Then I went on a little adventure in pouring rain to buy a 2nd disc to disc axle, which I dropped to Greg for install. He’d already removed the busted one by the time I got back there.

We had a week at Tahlee and I picked up the D2 from workshop on our way home. She’s sans ABS/TC etc as the ABS sensor plugs were all shot and new ones not available til Feb.

Then I loaded her up w camping gear and my bike and gave her a good test run up to Thredbo for a few days riding and a couple hiking.

I travelled over 1500kms and all quiet in the diff/axle, which I was happy about considering you never really know what you’re buying w 2nd hand parts and the diff housing I bought looked a lot worse for wear than mine; short of the 3 holes……
