The clear coat on the roof at the right rear corner of my 1999 build D2 is failing rapidly and is peeling AND I aso have bubbling under the paint at he top of the windscreen on the driver side that is creeping up from behind the top windscreen finishing rubber and clearly indicates an advancing rust problem. I intend to deal with both issues which when done properly will require a repainting of the roof. The original vehicle paint colour is Kinversand which is an orange /brown metalic paint with a copper fleck highlight. I thought that I might avoid the issue of trying to match the now much faded factory colour and settle on a contrast colour for the roof. I have found examples on the internet but they are mainly dark body colours with white or black roof. A black roof coupled with a blacked engine bonnet power bulge would look okay on my D2 but living in Australia I hesitate to go that route for obvious reasons. Maybe I should go with just the white or tinted white roof?

I'm looking forward to your thoughts and opinions........

Dunno, I reckon a dark shale sorta colour would look awesome with that LR colour ( my donor car was that ). I wouldn't worry about the dark colour myself, having owned a black car. Didn't get that hot but never looked clean. On a D2 I reckon the main problem with heat inside is the huge glass area.

I saw a test conducted on internal temperatures of various coloured cars. I was surprised that the tests revealed little difference, I expected darker cars to be notably hotter.

I once had a F50 Daihatsu in dark green, I painted the roof white, it made and huge difference to the interior temperature.

It did have very small, almost vertical windows and windscreen and didn't have aircon.

There’s a reason a lot of desert tribes wear black robes.

I painted my dark blue D2 roof silver with spray cans.
I got it when the clear coat was only milky and sealed and sprayed it with silver acrylic lacquer and then clear coat.
There was an enormous temperature difference between the bonnet and roof.
I also stuck external chrome vinyl onto the alpine windows.
I suggest a variation of cream would look good and be cool. I recall seeing Minis with red with a cream roof and it looks good. You have a big preparation job if the clear coat has begun to peel as you will have to sand back the entire roof.

I've always had light coloured cars, but once LR gave me a black Freelander as a loan car. I had it parked in the sun and got in and moved the sun visor and it felt so warm I thought it had lit vanity mirror and that I had left the light on.
