Thread: Blue Coolant

I know there are heaps of threads(and arguments) regarding coolant for Td5.

I recently got myself a second D2. With the vehicle came some coolant. It was Penrite Red.

I just changed a hose and used most of this coolant.

I figured that it was best to stick with the same, so went on line to see where best to get more.

I went to Super Crap's site and it stated that this coolant is not suitable for my vehicle.

It says Penrite Blue. Never seen or heard of this.

Anyone heard this? I have read a lot of threads about coolant for Td5 and most people say to use red.

I used the Penrite Green 100,000km Corrosion Inhibitor and demineralised water after the oil cooler had let loose few years back. No issues and have had it apart enough times since then to see it is effective, so I've stuck with it.

Says something about being a Hybrid OAT on the bottle.

I don't know why any properly functioning cooling system would boil to need an 'anti-boil'. I don't live or intend to drive the car anywhere my goolies would freeze but I would add 'anti-freeze' to it if I was.

I like the CHEAP CHEERFUL WORKS (after trying for myself) approach, and don't always comply with established norms of following the everyone knows/rules/manual.

Anyway, no issues so far and I have run straight demineralised water in plenty of cars over the years also, for me I find the colouring is of use when taking a quick look at the header tank to check the level.
