    D2 TD5 Temp light - intermittent

    Hi all
I have the red light above the temp gauge on my 2001 TD5 coming on. It is intermittent - shut it down and it might not be on the next time. Coolant levels are fine.

Rev's also at 1000rpm when this occurs

Could it be oil in harness - have replaced it once ...few years ago but only 30K km ago? it looks ok when I had a quick look

welcome any thoughts / experience on this one

    regards

Hi, if you have a nanocom or similar check the coolant temp input when this happens... if no diagnostic tool available check the cooant temp sensor's plug to be well connected eventually replace the sensor cos it's the first suspect, it's not expensive and if the problem remains it can be a bad contact or wiring issue along that circuit or within the instrument pack(the ECT sensor is connected to the ECU's black plug not the red one)

    Hi and Thank you

I do not have a Nanocom / alternative handy and the nearest would be a distance away. I will certainly check out the coolant temp sensor plug connection and if needed replace the sensor.
I might check the ECU Black plug to be sure it's clean and fitted correctly as well.

will let you know the outcome

    Thanks
    cheers

So when the light comes on, the engine idle speed increases to 1000rpm?

If so, does it run ok or is it missing?

    Hi
I only noticed the higher revs once and saw taco steady at 1000rpm and yes it was missing a bit. All othertimes it was normal revs and no miss.
    bit of mystery
    Thanks

    Fixed!

    Hi All
Posted this a while ago - bought an original LR Sensor $85 and washer $4

Got a chance to fit today
and no red temp light on a test run !

So Thanks Sierra and Co - appreciate the guidance

Motor seems to run better as well!

Thought it was good to let people know what it was and how it all went

now for a grease and oil change tomorrow for the D2 and then fit new fan belt and new hoses to the Series 1 and get that running again

    cheers

    Nobby
