    Rear main.....

So, it looks like I'll be doing the rear main on mine sometime soonish. Have to do it myself. ****ed if I'm taking the trans out again so I want to pull the engine, and do some other things while I'm at it. Won't be soon though, arm isn't ready.
Question is, can I pull the donk without releasing the A/C gas? It looks like it, but has anyone done it?

If You have an engine hoist it's a help dropping the transmission and transferbox as one package
If You are doing this on flat ground and not on a hoist or anything, like me.

Remove the plates (both of them) covering the hole that the gearlevers come through and use that hole for the engine hoist to lower the transmission down.
Easier to do from the passanger side, and remove the check strap pin from the door so You can open it more.

Just had my gearboxes done. Removed them with jacks and blocks of wood, and put them back with an engine hoist.
And oh the reinstall was way easier than removing.

Thanks, but I’m hoping to never remove the transmission ever again. I did on my back in an unsealed truck yard and it still gives me nightmares. I also have a bunch of other stuff to do to the engine once I save up. Welch plugs, harmonic balancer, fuel cooler etc.
At 71 with some physical limitations I need it to be as easy as possible.

Did mine a few years ago. As others have said, you can do it without disconnecting air con.

Having done both engine and transmission on separate occasions, I would prefer to remove trans over the engine anyday, although I do have a hoist.

The engine crane that I have just goes high enough for engine to clear the bonnet latch cross panel.

I had the chain super tight and I had to remove the wheels to get the vehicle lower.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

No hoist here. Otherwise I wouldn't have done it on my back in the first place...... I do however have a way to lift the engine clear... Or I can pay a shop to do it. Now, what do I have to put on marketplace?

I'd suggest trying some leak stopping stuff as a stopgap until you get a chance to do the main.

    Wouldn't hurt.

Never tried any stuff myself, but I remember Project Farm rated ATP AT-205 as quite good in his tests.
