    Discovery problems

    Just wondering.
I see a hell of a lot of posts on D2 problems.

How many people have problems with their:

    1. D1 Diesel,
    2. D1 V8,
    3. D2 diesel and,
    4. D2 V8?

I think first off you need to asatain what a problem is, I changed a bearing in my aircon idler pulley the other day. Problem, yep, got my bloody hands dirty. To me a problem is a toatal failure of a system that lets you down and it needs trucking home. Using that example in 5-6 years of owning the landrover breed, firstly a 89 rr and now a 97 tdi disco I have never had a problem,

You also need to be able to add mileage as problems generally increase with wear.

It seems like a very broad question. I have two Disco's - Tdi 300 auto & Tdi 200 manual and both need work from time to time, eg servicing, replacing a boot floor, replacing worn components such as brakes but neither has ever let me down.

Hmm. I voted for D1 V8. I don't have one, but seems to me they have more problems.

Of course I base this on no factual evidence, I just felt compelled to vote.

    If you take out 1 equation, ME to date i had these after 7yrs and 160,000Ks;
    oil in the ECU harness
    The 3 amigos
    wastegate modulator replaced
gearbox oil pump (being fixed as we speak)
    transfercase oil seals replaced
double cardan joint front shaft replaced 3 times (this is due to the extra lift mine has)

    Not bad really

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

I asked the question, based on the amount of traffic in this forum that I see on engine problems.

Given that vehicles of a similar age may also have covered a similar mileage regardless of being diesel or petrol.

I guess the results maybe incorrect if there are more diesels than V8's around.
However there are a hell of a lot of threads on diesel problems.

Its not going to take a lot of brain power to work out what's got a good chance of 'winning' this...

half the people on here are so scared of electronics the td5 is going to get votes from people who know nothing about them.....

I didn't vote because I have had no problems with the engine. Might have been a good idea, to get a better idea of the rate of problems, to have options for those who have no problems in each of the categories.
