ARB Side Steps Install Discovery 2

Well, I've bought a set of ARB side steps for the disco..... Now to fit them. Unfortunately will have to wait until next week-end....fiance gone away for the week-end - need a second pair of hands to help hold up to vehicle....and not to mention I've got a chest infection (flu). Look good though.

Will try and do a step by step pictorial and have a go at posting it up. I did a search and couldn't find such a thread.

....if anyone has already installed a set of the ARB steps - any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Can't weight....as my disco has been lifted 2" and is just that little higher....any shorties have trouble getting in with no steps

    ...stay turned.

    hi Twigrx7,

I recently did this myself with no doco and managed it myself with a little contortionism... I'll upload some pics over the weekend........

If memory serves me right I had to drill a couple of holes but other than that not too much drama.

....well I got a bit inspired. Checked the instructions...and then looked at the chasis brackets - holes already there, just need to be drilled out to 10mm.... ....so I've done that much tonight.

Put the front up on ramps.....in a perfect world we'd have our hoist to use.

Drilled the 2 holes out on each of the brackets as per instructions.
Will get some pictures tomorrow and Sunday and include step by step instructions.

...sorry George thought you'd sold your steps.

The pdf is pretty how I worked it out.... I have SLS rear suspension so sandwiched the mudflaps just infront of the rear wheels between the framework and step bracket. That way I still offer some protection to the air bags.

Not a problem at all, glad you got them sorted. It's a pretty straight forward install. A little bit of cold gal paint around the where you've drilled the holes helps against corrosion and your away.

    Enjoy

Ok all done, only took me 2.5 hours.....and that was after having to remove all the bolts, because some silly bugger forgot the spring washers....

...only thing with the instructions......drill out to 12mm not 10mm - the bolts don't go through the 10mm hole ....only added 15 mins, by the time I got the right drill bit.

Thanks for the PDF.....won't worry about report. At least now this thread will come up if someone does a search.

    Thanks for the input guys...

    Interesting timing on this post.

This coming weekend, I am installing some side-steps on my 2004 Disco.

After looking around at most of the usual manufacturers, I was discussing them over a few coldies with a mate of mine who just happens to be a metal worker.

Between us, we figured out a design, checked & double checked a stack of measurements, and set about building. Well - he did the building, and I nodded a lot and made noises like I understood what he was saying.

Anyway, the latest change was to add rock sliders as part of the whole set-up.

I will take some pics & post them once we have done the final work.

Thanks goes to DI5CO for the PDF file. I have been in the process of building my own slider / sill protectors and was wondering how I was going to mount them, now thanks to the post I have a better idea what to do.
