After reading many of the CDL threads on this forum, it has left me wondering. Does the traction control system actually lock the Center differential once wheel spin is detected? And if so wouldnt it be possible just to manually control the soliniod valve in the center differential through a switch instead of installing a CDL lever? Hope that makes sense....
Cheers
so what happens once the traction control detects wheels spin when you're say stuck in the mud?
Brakes are applied to the wheel that is spinning – transferring power back through the diff(s) to wheels that have traction.

and it works quite well too. i have several vids on youtube that show the TC working(i have no cdl internals sadly) if u wanna see them search for the same username i use here. only once when i was well and truly bogged in soft, dry sand, has the tc not kept me moving forwards.
seems the trick is to be as smooth as possible on the throttle and not to rev/spin the wheels too much on rough, axle twisting terrain, and just drive normal on sand.
oh now i see, i always thought it locks the transfer case.
when im stuck, will i hear the usual rumble under the hood when the traction control kicks in? Coz one time fell into a deep ditch with one of the front wheels in some realy rough stuff, and had to do some digging before i got out. I eventually got out, but i didnt hear the TC kick in, and I did have some wheels spin on one of the rear wheels. my three amigoes are blazing tho so thats probably why
yeah if the 3 lights are on all the time then it will disable the system thats causing the fault. when i had it(many, many times) it was my front right sensor and the shuttle valve. oddly, abs worked on the rears still, same for t/c. perhaps in ur case the computer has disabled it completely. where abouts are u located? several of us have nanocoms that can clear the codes. i'm in adelaide if its near u and can do this(free of course)
My abs seams to work fine, proved that the other night when i had to come to a complete stop to miss a wallaby on the road. Oddly though, traction control does work from time to time, driving through some real sticky mud, you can clearly hear it working. Thanks for the offer, but sadly im in Queensland, but I am going to get a nanocom soon, I'm pretty sure its one of the wheels sensors because I took it to a dealer a few months ago and they turned it off. It lasted for about 3 days, where everything worked fine, untill i washed the car and braked slightly when backing out of my garage, and heard three chimes and it came back on. Does anyone think the water could have had anything to do with it. When the lights came on initially, it was a rainy day and it happened then i slowed down at a red light.
I want to install a CDL first though, so i can do some proper offroading.
normally a wheel speed sensor will reset the lights the next time u turn the car off, it can come back on again of course.
sensors are very common fault,.i got a used one from TRS in adelaide for around 120-150. i couldnt work out how to get to the old sensor so i took it to my local holden dealer. they only charged me $45. so obviously it is simple, and i was just stupid!
TRS give a 3mth warranty on their used parts too, which helps for a bit of peace of mind. did your brakes squeal when the lights came on?
my car also had a shuttle valve switch problem .it would happen randomly(cause the 3 lights and chimes). really annoying. sometimes it would happen every drive within minutes, other times it'd last over 500kms. with nanocom, if it registered as "current" i could reset it myself. if it was just "intermittent" turning the car off/on reset it.
Yeh the brakes did squeel both times, would that indicat a broken wheel sensor or the shuttle valve problem? It would be handy if it was only the shuttle valve because that would be relatively easy and cheap to replace, seeing as LR has made a repair kit available.
