Guys,
What's the concensus on exhaust options to free up a bit more of the v8 grumble on a d2?
I know how fantastic the Rover V8 can sound from the symphonic aural assault the TVR gives with an engine not overly far removed from the Thor, but the d2 noise just isn't doing it for me at present. Sounds like it has been silenced within an inch of its life to avoid upsetting the kids on the school run with only the barest hint of burble.
I'm not looking to turn it into a hoon mobile with a bean tin hanging off the back or anything, just a firm believer that a V8 should properly sound like a V8!
So, what have other people done and how has it panned out? I did a search and there seem to be quite a few threads about exhaust options for the TD5 but not much on the v8.
Thinking it'll probably be pretty high on the list of mods for when i get it through the VIV inspection hopefully next week.
Thanks
Al

extractors and a good 2 and a half inch single system will sound pretty good, its what i have
i put 2.5" pipe from the twin pipes back through a sports muffler in the middle on my 3.9.If i was doing much towing i would put a resonater on the back if you did this you will get good sound but not to loud.I am guessing that yours is a 4ltr so should be around the same i would say![]()
I am taking the plunge after thinking about doing this for ages.
I am doing the el cheapo option which is to replace the centre muffler with a less restrictive glass pack sports muffler. Rest of the system is standard.
Went to an exhaust shop in Croydon NSW used by a forum member here a couple years ago, but I couldn't find the thread to find out exactly what muffler he used.
My goal is better sound without a drone and the hope of slightly better performance and economy (but prob not).
I have reservations about replacing a perfectly good stainless muffler but I guess you only live once and this will probably be my last V8. May as well enjoy the sound.
The replacement muffler costs $240, will let you know tomorrow how it went.
In my last RR I had a rip snorter of an exhaust - sounded great.
Problem was I drove it to the tune of the exhaust - always kept it on the loud peddle way too long.
Current disco has extractors, a 2.5 inch system and resonator on the back. Not sure what type of muffler is in the middle.
It does make some noise, not as much as before, but my wife and neigbours are much happier for the experience.
There is nothing that sounds as good as a V8 (except maybe a Merlin V12), so it should be heard, but only 1 suburb away!
I'd go the extractors and the 2 1/2" stainless system, at least that's what I have, but is still just a little too loud.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Yeah, I know what you mean. My P38A doesn't sound nearly as good as my previous RR with a 3" exahust system.
